Mayor Cory A. Booker has announced that the bicycle tour of Newark will hold a 25-mile non-competitive ride through all five city wards on Sept. 18. The rain date is Sept. 25.
Check-in and registration will begin at 7 a.m. on the steps of City Hall, located at 920 Broad St. The event will also include a 5-mile Family Ride through downtown, suitable for families and children ages 8 to 14. The tour and Family Ride both start at 9 a.m.

A two-phase $1.6 million facelift in Essex County Ivy Hill Park in Newark was unveiled on Aug. 26. The improvements included the installation of a synthetic surface baseball/softball field, the renovation of two rest room buildings and upgrades to enhance pathways and landscaping.

Debra Schinnagel, 51, of Bayonne, and Marvin Crespo, 35, of North Bergen, have pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree theft by deception in a scheme to steal more than $630,000 from a Newark trucking company.
