Nelson Cephas
Mr. Nelson Everett Cephas, 85, of Irvington died Oct. 3. Born in
Lincoln, Del., Mr. Cephas is survived by a stepmother, Queen Esther
Cephas; and his fiancee, Phyllis Wilkins.
Peter E. Burgess
Peter E. Burgess, 77, of Tuckerton died Oct. 3, at Samaritan
Hospice, Mount Holly. Born in West Orange, Mr. Burgess resided in
Irvington before moving to Tuckerton 15 years ago. He attended West
Orange High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean
War. Mr. Burgess was employed by the Becker and Tuscan Dairies for
20 years and at Calton Homes, Manalapan, as a warranty manager
until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife,
Marilynn Burgess; a son, Peter E. Burgess Jr.; two daughters, Lori
LaPorta and Claire Schweiger; a brother, William Burgess; and five
grandchildren.
William J. Christian
William J. Christian, 56, of Union died Oct. 5 at home. Born in
Newark, Mr. Christian lived in Irvington for 40 years, moving to
Union 15 years ago. He was a sales manager with Zoned-4-Toys in
Bloomfield for 20 years. Mr. Christian was a member of the
Irvington/Maplewood Knights of Columbus. Mr. Christian is survived
by his mother, Elsie J. Christian; his companion Linda Bayard; and
two brothers, Paul and Robert M. Christian.
Leroy Thomas
Leroy Thomas, 69, of Irvington died Oct. 4. Born in Allendale,
S.C., Mr. Thomas is survived by 13 children, Cleveland, Steward,
Kecia, Deltrice, Marquis, Crystal, Monique, Dominique, Lynne,
Shantell, Angell, Ciara and Tiara; three siblings; Jesse, Annie and
Sonya; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sarah Daniels
Sarah Daniels, 86, of Irvington died Oct. 7. Mrs. Daniels was an
assembly worker at Liberty Optical for many years before her
retirement. Mrs. Daniels is survived by two daughters, Eleanor
Smith and Carrie Brown; four grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two
sisters, Emma Allison and Ann Henry Williams.
Jerzy J. Klos
Jerzy J. Klos, 78, of Toms River died Oct. 9, at home. Born in
Poland, Mr. Klos lived in Irvington and most recently Toms River.
He worked as a machinist for many years with the American Can Co.,
of Newark. Mr. Klos served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Klos is survived by his wife, Anna Klos; three daughters,
Sophie Kudrzycki, Irene Woroble and Diane Arias; a stepson, Jerzy
Ilnicki; a stepdaughter, Arieta Gabryl; a brother, Stanley Klos;
two sisters, Irena Brzyski and Cecilia Stefanczuk; four
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann Plusch
Mary Ann Plusch, nee Wuest, 78, of Irvington died Oct. 9, at RWJUH
at Rahway. Born in Irvington, Miss Plusch was a lifelong resident.
She was employed with N.J. Transit, Maplewood for 30 years before
her retirement. Mrs. Plulsch is survived by two sons, Theodore and
Robert Plusch; a daughter, Mary Ellen Hornberger; three sisters,
Elizabeth Hurle, Arline Brunnell and Eugene Wuest; and two
grandchildren.
