I was to take three platoons to escort the communications bunker in Walvis Bay, in the former South West Africa. The powers that be had screwed up. They had called up five officers, five tight-fisted officers and 36 lower ranks. Unfortunately, only one officer (me) and one small-time officer (a face-cream products salesperson) had answered the call. We mustered and were transported to the Air Crack base and loaded into a C-130 aircraft.
